Individuals and Couples Counselling

Welcome to Kate Hogg Counselling – Individuals and Couples.

Making the decision to get some professional counselling can be challenging, but finding the right counsellor can really help you, to understand what is going on with your life and can help you to change things for the better. As a pluralistic counsellor, and a qualified Couples Counsellor I do not believe that it is a case of “one size fits all” when it comes to choosing the best counselling approach for you. I will work collaboratively with you to tailor the therapy to meet your needs, working towards your goals using a variety of tools and techniques.

I work with trauma, bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression and low mood, issues with relationships, Couples and anything you feel you want to bring.

Please contact me if you would like to know more about how we could work together to help bring about change for you as an individual and you as a Couple.

Frequently asked questions?

What is Pluralistic Counselling?

Pluralistic counselling is not just one method. It combines different types of theories and therapies to help clients. The belief is no ‘one size fits all’ and that different things work for different people at different times. We will work together on the best way forward for you.

What is Couple Counselling?

The Therapist creates a supportive space where each person is listened to equally and where you are both encouraged to have those ‘difficult’ conversations that are needed to navigate your way in the relationship. Sometimes individual sessions may occur within this process.

What can I expect in the first session?

Your initial session provides the opportunity for you to tell me about your situation and for us to agree a way that we might work together.  I will ask you to fill out some forms, just arrive for your appointment and we’ll take it from there.

Is what I tell you treated as confidential?

Everything you tell me in your sessions is confidential and will not be passed on to anyone without your permission. There are a few situations where I will have to break confidence but I will speak to you about this in the initial session.

What does a typical counselling session look like?

Counsellors are highly trained in listening and reflecting, and providing a safe environment in which to explore your issues. You are free to discuss what you wish, from everyday events, dilemmas, feelings, thoughts, to regrets, aspirations, memories and dreams.

I can provide practical exercises, as well as, a space to get all the pieces of the puzzle out on to the table to make sense of it. This can often lead to seeing un-noticed patterns and themes that may be running through your life.

How many sessions do I need?

I work in an open-ended way. This means that you come and see me for a period of time and we end when you feel ready. That period of time can be weeks, months, or longer. We take things at your pace, you can have as much therapy as you want.  It is important to say that Counselling is a process, there can be ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ which can make things feels uncomfortable at times. It is not a ‘quick fix’ and requires some work from the Client.

How much does it cost?

Individual sessions are £40 per hour, £50 for a Couple session. You can pay by cash or card at the session or by bank transfer before the session.
